About Serge

I have over 28 years of experience in the photography business. I began by freelancing for the Daily News and the Associated Press in New York City. Eventually my work shifted to a successful magazine career where my photographs were featured in The New York Times Magazine, The London Sunday Times Magazine, ESPN The Magazine and many others.

While doing assignment work, I was always involved with personal projects including long term documentary photo essays, street photography and series of images that involved photographic studio self-portraiture that incorporated mixed media.

Over time my editorial career transitioned into exposure in fine art world. My work has been shown in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Phoenix Museum of Art, The Leica Gallery in New York City and Tokyo, Galerie Friedrichshain in Berlin, Lishui Museum in China and many other venues throughout the world.

Over the years my work has been recognized by the Dorothea Lange and Paul Taylor Prize out of Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies, Critical Mass, and The Magenta Foundation. I have also received grants from The Arizona Commission on the Arts and The Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona.

My photography is held in the collections of The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Center for Creative Photography (Tucson, AZ), The Museum of the City of New York, and The Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton, NJ).

For over 15 years I taught at top institutions for photography across the country including the International Center of Photography in New York City and at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Teaching is a passion of mine. The opportunity to exchange ideas, problem solve and to explore the potential for growth is exciting to me.

In addition to my consulting work with photographers, I am a consultant and portfolio reviewer for LensCulture Inc. I also write book reviews, essays on photography, and book introductions for photographers.
